5 things that happened in the Charity sector this week - 19th Feb 2021

Happy Friday all! We wanted to share our top 5 news stories from the charity sector that we spotted this week.

  1. Hundreds of charities and thousands of people are fighting to keep the £20 Universal Credit lifeline

The Covid lifeline top-up payment of £20 a week for universal credit has been a lifeline for many families over the Covid-19 crisis. There are plans to scrap this payment in March. Hundreds of thousands of people have signed the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s petition to keep the universal credit lifeline.

2. Small Charities Coalition re-launch their mentoring programme.

The Small Charities Coalition have re-launched their free mentoring programme for those working in small charities. It’s completely free and you’ll get matched with a person or organisation who can help you tackle a particular problem or challenge. There’s more information about how to get involved here.




3. Grant Applications for Mental Health Charities open next Monday (22nd Feb)

The Enterprise Development Programme are opening applications for their grants for Mental Health charities next Monday. Charties, CICs and social enteprises can apply. There’s more information about their mental health stream and how to apply here.


4. Two Opera Singers have turned to Disney tunes to raise money for Skiggle

Two Opera signers have started a fundraising campaign ‘Songs for shielding’ to raise money for North-West charity Skiggle. The duo take requests to cover popular songs, including Disney that people can enjoy whilst shielding and, in turn, raise funds for the charity. 5. Students teach teachers how to use technology to improve education
