Use Outcomes
There are many ways to measure your impact. This guide introduces you to six methods you can start using today.
* 2 of 6. OUTCOMES *
What is an outcome?
An Outcome is the difference you make to people’s lives. You can find out your outcomes by simply listening to your service users and listening out for the improvements to their lives which they accredit to your work.
How to find outcomes
Various researchers have listened to service users across the country and identified some common outcomes that are achieved by organisations working in the nonprofit sector.
So when it comes to describing your outcomes, you can now use the anecdotes you hear from your service users in the language they use and/or you can refer to one or more of the common outcomes that have been identified.
How to use outcomes
Once you have identified the outcomes that you are achieving, you then need to find out how many people you have achieved that outcome for and in an ideal world, have an explanation for how you know that the outcome has been achieved.
This could be through Professional Observation (e.g. one of your staff or volunteers has seen that this has happened), Quotes from service users, Pictures, Photocopies (e.g. of certificates if people have completed a training course), etc.
